December 3, 2008 at 10:34 pm (BD deck, Blu-ray, blu-ray player, Denon, Denon's DVD-A1UD, DivX-encoded, DTS-HD, DVD-A1UD, HDMI, SD / SDHC card)

Denon has developed a Blu-ray player . DVD-A1UD is hailed as the world’s first universal BD deck, and it features a black (shown after the break) or silver motif, SD / SDHC card slot, DivX support, HDMI 1.3, 1080p60 / 1080p24 output, internal decoding of DTS-HD Master Audio / Dolby TrueHD, 7.1-channel analog outputs, Denon LINK and all sorts of sophisticated pixel / audio restoration technologies. Better still, users who buy in can look forward to a Profile 2.0 update in the near future. Not surprisingly, the decked-out player will ship in Japan next month for a patently astounding ¥546,000 ($5,860).

Nokia Music Store hits United Arab Emirates

December 3, 2008 at 10:23 pm (Middle East, music, Nokia, Nokia Music Store, Nseries, Store, Uae)

Nokia keeps expanding its online music stores around the world. This time, though, they’re going outside Europe, bringing its service to the Middle East, to United Arab Emirates.

As it’s the case with all other Nokia Music Stores opened elsewhere, the twelfth store globally is part of Nokia’s OVi offering, tightly integrated with Nokia NSeries handsets’ software. Again, main labels are on board (Universal, Sony BMG, Warner and EMI) and so are the Arab label Rotana and content aggregator Qanawat.

Feature wise, there’s a 30 second preview of all tracks and dynamic recommendations based on musical preferences. Additionally, there’s also a “Wishlist” for picking songs for later purchase as well as the “download history” feature that allows users to return to purchased content after some time.

Individual tracks cost 3 AED, while complete albums could be yours for 30 AED. The unlimited music PC streaming service is also an option which you could grab for 20 AED per month.

Unlock BlackBerry 8000-9000 Series Phones For Free

December 3, 2008 at 10:10 pm (apps, BlackBerry, free, free blackberry unlock, free unlock, software, unlock)

IntoMobile just found an app that can unlock any BlackBerry 8000 or 9000 series device, free of charge. It’s only semi-legal.

So, you’d better download these files fast before they’re taken down (they’ll most likely pop up again elsewhere though, with a day or two’s delay). The instructions are here, complete with photos of the process.

A Map that is also a Light

December 3, 2008 at 10:07 pm (Light, Map)

This device, which is simply called The Light, is an ordinary map that, when rolled up like a kid’s pretend telescope, will become a flashlight.

How does something like this work? First, the map is not an ordinary map, but two sheets of paper. On one of these sheets is the actual printed map itself, while the other is a cover sheet with two electrodes.

Second, simply roll up the map so the two electrodes meet, and this union turns the built-in LEDs on. This device is powered by a thin battery that fits in between the two sheets.

iPhone Poster Celebrates 10,000 Apps in the App Store

December 3, 2008 at 9:52 pm (000, 10, App Store, Apple iPhone, apps, icons, iphone 3g)

iPhone fanatics and software coders alike are gung-ho about Apple hitting a milestone of 10,000 applications now available through its App Store.

The photo on the right uses exactly 10,000 application icons to compose the image of an iPhone. Pretty neat, and it’s in 4,674-by-7,011-pixel resolution on Flickr, so the few of you with wide-format printers can print a poster to show off your iPhone pride (or print a bunch of these and sell them on eBay).

Tap Tap Tap developers John Casasanta and Phill Ryu designed the poster. MacRumors and AppShopper provided the icons.

Apple’s App Store exceeded 10,000 applications last week — a significant achievement, seeing as the store launched in July with about 500 apps available. 148Apps, a site that reviews and tracks new iPhone apps, announced the number and made a tribute page displaying miniature icons of each of the 10,215 apps available.

Portable Xbox 360 is only portable compared to the original

December 3, 2008 at 9:47 pm (Ben Heck, consoles, modder, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox laptop)

Ben Heck, probably the best modder of video game hardware anywhere. The guy just does not stop taking bulky consoles and turning them into slightly less bulky portable consoles. His latest creation? A new Xbox 360 Portable.

Essentially, it’s a gigantic Xbox laptop, with a big screen that folds down to close it and allow you to tote it around. Thanks to the new NXE software on the Xbox, you can rip games right to the hard drive, making it much easier to play games on the go without them skipping.

Polar FT80 Fitness Training Computer is more than just a watch

December 3, 2008 at 9:35 pm (Fitness, Garmin, GPS, GPS watch, LED watch, Polar FT80, Training)

This Polar FT80. It’s an intelligent training computer you wear on your wrist. With its built-in heart monitor, it can tell how you’re tolerating exercise, and when you attach the optional G1 GPS module, it figures in your speed and distance traveled. We like its strength recovery capability, telling you when you’re ready for more exercise after a rest.

This has got to be one of the coolest-looking watches ever — we thought it was a design concept at first. But be sure you see it in your own hands before buying, because we’ve seen a comment noting its dim display and too-basic GPS functions. With the G1 GPS sensor, it’s $429.95; without, it’s $329.95.

ScottEVest cotton T-shirt lets you set up a personal area network

December 3, 2008 at 9:32 pm ((PAN), personal area network, ScottEVest, T-Shirts)

Now you can wire yourself up in a personal area network (PAN) that’s hidden inside a comfy cotton T-shirt. Sure, ScottEVest makes plenty of coats, hoodies, polo shirts, vests and jackets with tons of pockets that let you carry around most of your gadget stash. But it’s about time they made one for us indoor types, all casual in pre-washed cotton.

The SeV Cotton T-Shirt has three pockets, with the left shoulder pocket packing a special wire management system and elastic loops that keep those earbuds in place. You can even control your music player from outside the pocket. Under a single zipper are two side pockets, giving you plenty of room for a cell phone and more stuff. At $25, it’s only slightly more expensive than most T-Shirts.
